Letter: Word about Healthy Kids St. Lucie needs to get around to area parents

More than 700,000 of children in Florida are uninsured. Many of those children live in St. Lucie County, but unfortunately their parents are unaware of the state's health insurance programs for uninsured children. That's why Healthy Kids St. Lucie exists.

The program provides information about Florida KidCare, the state health insurance for children from birth to 19. This information is provided through community partnerships with local businesses and organizations in contact with families with children. The program provide enrollment assistance at family-focused community events and at different locations throughout St. Lucie County.

All children have a right to medical and dental care. Uninsured children don't have access to care that kids need in order to grow healthy, learn in school, and succeed in life. Many parents of potentially eligible children either don't know about the program or mistakenly think they make too much money to qualify.

The funding from Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County makes it possible to get the word out to the community and reach those hard-working families to get them the information they need about Florida KidCare. The Children's Services Council of St. Lucie County has been providing funds to Healthy Kids St. Lucie for more than four years.
