FORT PIERCE — The Pilot Club of Fort Pierce recently awarded a $5,000 matching grant for ESE students in the St. Lucie County school system. The grant was presented at the April St. Lucie County School Board meeting on Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce.

The grant money will purchase much needed special supplies for the exceptional education students. Club President Irene Wood was thrilled that her club was able to provide the grant for the third year in a row. “Being able to continue to support these very special teachers and students is something our entire club is passionate about,” she stated. “We are so appreciative of the continued support of this program.”

Over the past several years, the Pilot Club of Fort Pierce, together with Pilot International, has awarded more than $30,000 in grant monies to help students with cognitive disabilities become more independent, access their community and learn job skills that will give these students the competitive edge in employment. The Club has worked with the St. Lucie County School District for many years to assist the students and teachers to provide training, supplies and educational materials to help students transition from school to work.

Attending the presentation were club members Joan Dodds, Muriel Cowell, President Irene Wood, Tammy Wood, Sue Noll, Adele Lowe, Jan Smith and Shannon Randolf.
