FORT PIERCE — Windsor Imaging presented their 3rd Annual Free Health Fair on Saturday, October 22nd and reached their goal of 30 women to receive free mammograms before the event even started. And no-one was any more appreciative of the free mammogram than Olivia Young. Young of Fort Pierce has already lost an aunt to breast cancer and is watching her sister battle the disease now, so getting this potentially life-saving screening is giving her more than just piece of mind.

“I don’t have insurance and I cannot afford a mammogram,” Young said. “So when I heard Windsor Imaging was going to give away free mammograms, I knew I had to get in line early. My aunt was in her early fifties when she died from breast cancer. My sister is 50 and is still going through chemotherapy to fight it. I’m 46 years old and I know that my chances of getting it are high. I also know that detecting it early is the best chance of surviving it”.

This is the third year that Windsor Imaging has hosted the Health Fair at their facility in Fort Pierce, and the third year they’ve given away the mammograms. And it’s because of women like Young that they do this every year. Deby Duke is the Administrator at Windsor Imaging and the driving force behind the free screenings. “When I meet someone like Olivia Young and I hear her story, I know we are doing the right thing by giving away these screenings,” Duke said. “If we help one woman by detecting breast cancer early, it makes it so worth it.” The Health Fair included free medical screenings from other medical providers. Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts, bracelets and other items were on sale at the event with all proceeds to go to providing free mammograms throughout the year to uninsured women.

Young plans on spreading the word about Windsor Imaging. “I don’t know of any other medical facility in the area that gives away mammograms to needy women. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this; I was very worried about how I was going to get this test done,” stated a very grateful Young. Of course she hopes they don’t find anything in her test. “Peace of mind means so much to me. I worry about it all the time.”
