The winner, chosen from more than a hundred initial submissions, will receive a makeover package valued at more than $20,000.

PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA – JULY, 2011 – Drs. Stranigan, Askeland and Harris, of SAH Dentistry, and S. Darrell Lee, M.D. of Lee Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, recently announced Karen Winn as the winner of the  Ultimate Mom Makeover Contest.  Winn was chosen after an intense application, interview and examination process.

“We are so excited to be able to offer Karen the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Dr.  Craig Stranigan, a partner at SAH Dentistry.  “But this was not an easy decision. There were so many deserving women, who have sacrificed and given so much of themselves for their families and friends.” 

Winn was a divorced mom of two kids, who worked two jobs to support her family.  When her sister was diagnosed with cancer, she drove her back and forth to Jacksonville for chemotherapy treatments.  Her sister eventually succumbed to the disease and not long after that, Winn was diagnosed with cancer as well. Her daughter, Aimee Uhlir, who wrote the essay for the contest, said her mom has struggled with everything all her life.  “I wish she could win an ultimate makeover because I know how much she deserves it.  She has had to make sacrifices because food, bills and her family were the priorities.  She never put herself first or took care of herself,” Uhlir said.

Winn will receive Cosmetic Dentistry by SAH Dentistry, Facial Cosmetic Services by Dr. Lee, of Lee Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, a Day of Pampering at Vivid Hair Design And Spa, Optometry Services from Dr. Alan H. Siegel, A Beautiful Piece Of Jewelry From Jay’s Fine Jewelry, A Relaxing Weekend At The Hampton Inn St. Lucie West, A Night Of Fun at a St. Lucie Mets Game and more.  Second Place winner of the contest was Dawn June, and Third Place winner was Micaela Lara, each of whom will receive prizes from the various sponsors.

Winn will spend the several weeks getting her “Makeover”.  Her new look will be revealed at a Mets game in September (exact date to be announced).  Uhlir is excited that her mom is the winner. “I’m expecting a baby soon and I hope that I will be as good a mother as she was to me and my brother. She gave everything in her life for us and she will always be my hero for doing that”.
